Christian Paolo Lat

Founder, Director and Writer

Christian Paolo Lat is a Filipino-Canadian director, writer, producer, and actor known for his dynamic work in film, television, and advertising. Based in the Philippines, Canada, and the United States, Lat has built a successful career across multiple entertainment spheres, blending his cultural heritage to create globally resonant stories. He is recognized for his versatility in storytelling, having worked on diverse projects across various formats.

 

Lat has served as a creator, director, and writer for the For Us, By Us Network (FUBU) and UrbanflixTV, where he played a key role in developing original and cutting-edge content. His directorial achievements include the hit Urbanflix series "Broken Seeds,"which topped the platform in the United States. He also directed episodes of "Cocaine Sisters" and "Heaux Phase"in Hollywood and Atlanta, respectively.

 

In the Philippines, his feature film "Ginhawa"(2022) garnered significant attention at the Cinemalaya Film Festival, where it won Best Supporting Actress for Ruby Ruiz. The film continued to earn accolades, including five nominations at the Asean International Film Festival (AIFFA), where it was nominated for Best Film and Best Director. It also earned nominations at the Eddy's Awards and the Gawad Urian Awards, as well as international recognition at the 60th Asia-Pacific Film Festival. Lat's film "I Still Think About You" was nominated for Best Short Film at the FAMAS Awards, further showcasing his talent in the industry. He also directed a high-profile TV commercial for the TCL QLED C Series featuring actress Kathryn Bernardo.

 

Most recently, Lat's film "Journeyman" was selected as a finalist for the CinePanalo Film Festival 2025, highlighting his continued influence and growing success in the industry.

 

Lat’s ability to blend Eastern and Western storytelling traditions has earned him a reputation as a formidable force in both regional and international entertainment, making him a significant figure in contemporary filmmaking.

Dominic is a highly accomplished Filipino-Canadian cinematographer and an emerging director whose career spans both Canada and the Philippines. Recognized for his ability to capture compelling visuals across a range of media, including film, music videos, and high-profile advertising campaigns, Dominic continues to shape the visual landscape of contemporary storytelling.

Dominic gained notable attention with his work on Cinemalaya Film Festival 18's Ginhawa (2022), where his masterful use of light and composition added profound depth to the film's narrative. His work on Ben & Ben’s music video The Way You Look at Me (2023) further solidified his reputation, blending emotional resonance with visual storytelling in a way that captivated audiences. His latest film project, Sugar Baby, is a testament to his versatility and evolving style. The film is eagerly anticipated in both indie and mainstream circuits, showcasing Dominic’s ability to push the boundaries of visual storytelling.

Dominic also serves as the co-director and director of photography for Journeyman, a finalist at CinePanalo 2025. This achievement highlights his collaborative spirit and further cements his position as a multifaceted filmmaker capable of delivering impactful stories that resonate with diverse audiences.

In addition to his film work, Dominic has made a significant impact in the advertising industry. His portfolio includes high-profile TV commercials for global brands like Asus, RealMe, Sunlife, Lalamove, and Infinix. His expertise has led to collaborations with top-tier talent, including Sarah Geronimo, Kathryn Bernardo, Andrea Brillantes, Matteo Guidicelli, and the legendary boxer Manny Pacquiao.

Dominic frequently collaborates with directors, lending his expertise in cinematography to elevate visual storytelling. As an emerging director, he is expanding his creative influence further, bridging his technical expertise with his artistic vision. His ability to connect with audiences through diverse visual mediums has established him as a key figure in the industry, both in the Philippines and internationally. Our Story

Black Toro Productions, founded in 2016 by brothers Christian Paolo Lat and Dominic Ivan Lat, is a premier film production company based in Ottawa, Canada, and Manila, Philippines. Known for delivering culturally rich and globally resonant stories, the company specializes in feature films, short films, and music videos that leave a lasting impact on audiences.

 

The company’s origins lie in the success of OFW (2014), the Lat brothers’ award-winning short film about the lives of overseas Filipino workers in Ottawa. The film won Best Picture and Best Story at SPARTA XLII and garnered international recognition when their follow-up short film, Séjour, was selected for the prestigious Cannes Court Métrage 2016 – Official Trailer Program. The inclusion of Séjour in Cannes highlighted the brothers’ early talent and inspired the founding of Miracle Media Productions, which later rebranded as Black Toro Productions in 2021.

TV Success in Hollywood and Atlanta: Christian served as Director and Co-Writer on three multi-million-dollar TV series—Broken Seeds, Heaux Phase, and Cocaine Sisters. These series, filmed in Hollywood, California, and Atlanta, Georgia, are now streaming on the For Us, By Us Network and other international platforms. Through these projects, Christian gained invaluable experience working with Hollywood-caliber talent and production crews, elevating the quality and impact of each production.

 

Ginhawa (2021): Christian’s directorial debut feature was a finalist at Cinemalaya, telling the moving story of a young boxer striving to overcome life’s challenges. The film received critical acclaim and secured nominations at esteemed festivals, including the ASEAN International Film Festival and the Asia-Pacific Film Festival, cementing Christian’s reputation as a master storyteller.

 

Journeyman (2025): Christian’s latest feature film, a CinePanalo finalist, explores themes of redemption and resilience in the professional boxing world. The film highlights Christian’s ability to craft deeply resonant narratives that captivate global audiences.

Hannah May Ybalez

Hannah May Ybalez is a freelance Filipino Filmmaker and an award-winning Producer. She graduated at Cebu Christian Institute International in 2012-2013. She graduated from the International Academy of Film and Television in the Philippines in 2014 and, directed and produced her thesis film titled “Sed De Libertad”, winning Best Thesis. She has produced a number of award-winning films. And in 2019, she directed a short film entitled “Tinagsip” (Fragments) which and it won Best Child Actor and was got nominated foras Best Actress

 

Best, Best Supporting Actress Best, Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound Engineering & Musical Scoring and Best Short Film in Sinulog Film Festival 2019. Tinagsip got officially selected to screen in Seattle Center Armory, Washington, USA at the Summer for the Diwa Filipino Film Showcase 2019, and was one of the CCP finalists for the 31st Gawad Alternatibo 2019 and BAMASA Film Festival 2020.
